Your support, their future
In 2023, Southern Turkey was hit by devastating earthquakes. With your support, we can help affected local communities in their efforts to rebuild their lives and work towards a sustainable future.
Impact of the earthquakes
The earthquakes on February 6 and 20, 2023, claimed the lives of more than fifty thousand people in Southern Turkey and caused immense destruction. Many homes and basic infrastructure were (irreparably) damaged.
Two years later, over half a million people still live in container homes, tents and other forms of ‘temporary’ housing. Survivors have lost not only their loved ones, but also their familiar environment. The psychological distress is severe, also among children.
More than 50,000 deaths
Over 100,000 injured
Over 200,000 collapsed buildings
What we do with your support
Local reconstruction after the earthquakes in southern Türkiye
At Amanos Foundation, we aim to bridge the gap between people in the Netherlands and the affected local communities in Southern Turkey. To make a lasting impact, we focus on supporting sustainable projects in the fields of community building, social work, and environmental care. We always work in close collaboration with local communities; their needs and wishes guide our efforts.

What are we currently working on?
Project:
Mother and Child House Samandağ
In partnership with the local community, we are working on the establishment of a Mother and Child House in Samandağ, a badly affected district in Hatay. This meeting place is primarily intended for mothers and children currently living in container homes or other forms of temporary housing. Their opportunities for personal development and trauma recovery are limited.
The Mother and Child House will be a place that supports the development of children and young people, including homework and study facilities. Additionally, it will offer mothers a place to come together and participate in social activities. Local professionals will be involved to provide pedagogical and psychological support where needed.
Donate now and contribute to the establishment of the Mother and Child House in Samandağ.
Name & focus area
Amanos is the ancient Greek name for the mountain range that runs through the Hatay province in Southern Turkey, and ends in the Samandağ district. Hatay was the hardest-hit province by the earthquakes.
Therefore, Amanos Foundation focuses primarily on supporting people in this area. Our starting point is Samandağ, where we maintain in direct contact with the local community.
Who are we?
The board members of Amanos Foundation are deeply connected to the earthquake-affected region, either because we were raised there, through family ties, or friendships. From the Netherlands, we individually initiated various fundraising and aid efforts to provide help in Hatay, following the devastating earthquakes. We quickly realized that structural support was necessary to make a lasting impact.
That is why we joined forces and now combine our efforts to strengthen local communities. In short, we made the transition from emergency aid to long-term projects. The establishment of Amanos Foundation makes this possible. On our website, we provide visibility on where support is focused.
